Nurses make such a huge difference. Our NICU has a really experienced, well educated, and compassionate nursing team. Thanks to the nurses, I got to non-nutritive breast feed our baby for the first time today. It was awesome! She is making such progress now that she has turned the corner from that terrifying NEC scare that happened. She also got her feeding tube swapped to a NG tube. Its much more stable and less likely for Ms. Handsy to yank it out.
A nurse can be the difference between whether you get to hold your baby or not. It depends on their style. Some are very parent involving. Some are more controlling. When babies get kangaroo time they advance and develop into happy healthy babies. It also helps parents to suffer less from depression and anxiety while dealing with the NICU.
